    Julie-Anne Keane was the winner on Tuesday evening as a record forty-seven Larne Athletic Club runners and guests competed in the Hillclimb Handicap, the final round of this year’s Winebar sponsored Handicap Race Series. Starting in Ballygally, runners took on the leg-sapping 3-mile uphill route through Cairncastle on what turned out to be a damp evening, with no respite from the constant climb until the finish line at Knock Dhu car park.

    A small number of Larne Athletic Club mountain running enthusiasts have been keeping the flag flying at races far and wide throughout the month of June. Dale Smith and Laura Hamill travelled farthest, taking part in the Carrauntouhil race in County Kerry, described on the IMRA website as “Extreme” and included in the Irish Mountain Running Championship Series. Both ran well with Dale finishing 36th in a time of 116:30 and Laura 80th in 196:38.
