Rocky Mountain and Belfast Hills

Larne Athletic Club runners have taken part in two mountain events starting with Rocky, the sixth round of the Hill and Dale Series on Thursday evening. The four-mile race started at the very scenic location of Leitrim Lodge and included the summits of Altnataggart, Pearse’s Castle and Tournamrock before the final climb and the fast descent of Rocky Mountain.

Andy Gregg had a great race, making the most of the runable trails and the well defined descents to finish 29th in a time of 39.14. Laura Smith swapped places with Shirley Farnan of Physio & Co throughout the race, narrowly losing out in a sprint finish to achieve 138th place in a time of 51:15, a result which saw her finish second in the Female Vet40 Category. Dale Smith was forced to withdraw having twisted his ankle crossing a crowded, stony stream only 300 yards into the race.

On Saturday morning, Andy Gregg took part in the Chain Reaction Belfast Hills Race finishing in a time of 36:23 on a tough course shortened to 8K due to a recent landslide. In 10th place overall, Andy won the prize for first Vet40.
