Strabane and Lifford half marathon and 5K
🏅On Sunday 14th May 2017 ten members of larne AC made the 82 mile journey to Strabane to take part in the 4th Strabane and Lifford half marathon and 5K.
The half marathon started with a loop of the town before heading out to the undulating roads of the countryside then returning to Melvin sports complex to finish with a lap of the track. Our hardy runners joined 1,300 others (the largest turnout for this event) and experienced a range of all elements from blistering sunshine… to wind and rain.
The first runner in was Thomas Craig Jnr with an impressive time of 1:31:40, he was followed home by Brian Heron with a time of 1:38:06, next was Ricky Mann 1:47:00, then Dan Magill 1:50:00.
Heather Baxter was The first lady to finish for the club with a time of 1:52:09, she was followed by Andrew Davidson who was competing in his first race since London marathon, his time was 1:57:23. Bernie Regan although suffering a stitch finished strongly with a time of 1:58:39. Unfortunately Billy Thompson was forced to withdraw from the race at mile 8 due to injury.
We had two runners taking part in the 5K which included two laps of the town and also finished on the track. 124 runners took part in this race.
Steven Gilliland finished in 8th place with a time of 22:13(pb), he was followed by Clare McGuinness who finished in 32nd place with a time of 27:22.
