DUNE Half Marathon

Eight Larne Athletic Club members travelled to Newry early on Sunday morning to take part in the DUNE Half Marathon, a cross-border race starting at The Quays Shopping Centre and finishing at Market Square in Dundalk town centre. The event was the opening round of this year’s Pure Running Half Marathon Series and while weather conditions were cold, the ice and snow which was forecast failed to materialise until most runners were over the line.

First finished for Larne AC was Billy Thompson, 54th overall from a field of almost 750 runners. He ran a time of 1:29:03 on the course described as ‘undulating’ by some, and was fourth Vet50 across the line on the day. Next for the club was Andy Gregg, 84th in a time of 1:32:26. Third for Larne AC was Emmett Woods, 173rd in a time of 1:39:07, ten seconds ahead of Alan Lockington, 176th in 1:39:17, the pair having swapped places throughout the race.

Mark Todd and Emma McKeen ran together, both pleased with their time of 1:47:41 in 298th and 299th respectively. Ricky Mann celebrated his birthday with a fine run for a time of 1:51:08 (354th), while Jackie Wallace finished 443rd in a time of 1:56:34.
