On Saturday 1st December 2012, twelve Larne AC members made the short trip to Ballyclare for the Annadale Striders promoted Malcolm Cup Cross Country races. Basked in glorious winter sunshine, Sixmilewater Park was the perfect setting for a day of competitive racing, which saw Larne AC scoop no less than five awards.
The ladies and Vet 35+ Men were first off. The local club were well represented in this race, and it was long serving club member Craig Hutchinson who led the red, black and white vests home, completing the tough 3 mile course in 17:15, securing 5th place overall and with it, 1st place in the Vet50 category. Club mate and friend Greg Lavery (17:22) followed in 6th place, enough to see him take 2nd in the Vet35 category.
On Saturday 24th November 2012, Larne Athletic Club members gathered at Drains Bay for the latest of the clubs popular handicap races. Despite the bitterly cold conditions, twenty nine participants turned up to run.
On the word of time-keepers Billy Thompson and Kieran Sharratt, Rosemary Kerr was first to set off. Bernard Brady and Phelim McAllister were last away, and a tough battle lay ahead as they attempted to catch those ahead.
The exciting, mixed terrain course took the competitors along the Coast Road, through the old Cairndhu Hospital grounds, along the top of Carnfunnock and out towards Ballygally via the forest trail. The second half of the course guided the runners back towards Drains Bay through Ballygally and along the Coast Road.
