1. Podium places and category prizes for local athletes

    As the first hint of Spring appeared, athletes from Larne Athletic Club made the most of the sunshine and pleasant running conditions, taking part in several events over the weekend.

    On Saturday morning, David Noble and Geraldine Quigley took on the ECOS parkrun in Ballymena. The weekly 5km time trial is very popular with Larne AC members, who have notched up numerous race wins and personal bests. This week was no different, David Noble completed the course in 19:13 (6th place), while Geraldine Quigley won the ladies race in a new personal best of 19:42. In Belfast, Elaine Hall completed the Victoria Park parkrun in 26:17, finishing as 16th lady.

  2. Easter Weekend Roundup

    Larne AC members have enjoyed a busy and successful Easter, picking up prizes and personal bests in races in Belfast, Ballymena, Omagh and Whitehead. Just before the holiday weekend, three club members took part in the Queen’s University ‘Race around the River’ 5k in Belfast on Wednesday 27th March 2013. Craig Hutchinson led the trio home in 15:52 (60th place), before Dan Spencer crossed the line in 18:21 (77th place). Danielle McCluskey also had a good run, completing the course in 27:42 (274th place).

  4. Larne AC athletes brave snowy conditions

    Last weekend, Larne Athletic Club were forced to postpone their annual AES Larne Half Marathon. Although the course was clear of snow on Friday evening, the Police Service of Northern Ireland advised organisers to postpone the event because of weather conditions throughout the province.

  5. Larne AC athletes produce impressive performances

    This weekend saw Larne AC athletes compete in several events, most notably two of the country’s most popular races; the Glenariff Mountain Race in Waterfoot and Jimmy’s 10km Road Race in Downpatrick. However, the first showing of a Larne AC vest was at the Victoria Park ‘parkrun’ event in Belfast, were Paul Gaskell completed the 5km time-trial in a new personal best of 18:27. This secured an excellent 2nd place finish out of 117 competitors.

  6. Podium places for Larne AC athletes

    Larne Athletic Club athletes have been in action again this weekend, achieving podium finishes at events north and south of the border. On Saturday 9th March 2013, talented sisters, Bernadette and Trisha Campbell travelled to Ballymena for the ECOS parkrun, a weekly 5km time trial. Both are in excellent form at the moment and this showed as they battled it out for top spot in the ladies race; Bernadette got the better on this occasion, winning the race in 22:03. Trisha followed close behind, recording 22:32 to take 2nd place.

  7. Larne AC ladies take team title at Albertville 5

    This week, Larne Athletic Club celebrated the beginning of the 2013 road racing season with an impressive haul of silverware and personal bests at the Albertville 5 road race in Belfast.

    In pleasant conditions, over 120 competitors took part in the 5 mile race, hosted by Albertville Harriers; and it was James Brown who led the Larne contingent home in 27:29 (11 th place). Wayne Morrow (14th place – 27:56) and Greg Lavery (15th place – 27:59) followed close behind, with both achieving new personal bests. Craig Hutchinson celebrated his impending birthday by winning the Vet50 category in 28:25 (18th place) before Andy Guy broke the twenty nine minute barrier in 28:56 (22nd place).

  8. Larne AC runners collect silverware

    Last weekend, Larne Athletic Club members were racing at events in Larne, Belfast and Kilclief. However, the first silverware of the weekend was not picked up at any of the above events; instead it was presented to Mark McManus and David Clarke for their outstanding contribution to the club, and to the Borough of Larne.

    On Thursday night, at the annual Borough of Larne Sports Awards, held at Larne Leisure Centre; Mark and David were presented with ‘Coach of the Year’ and ‘Veteran of the Year’ trophies respectively. Both accepted the well-deserved awards from Olympic Gold Medallist Dame Mary Peters. The committee and members of Larne Athletic Club would like to extend their congratulations to Mark, David and to the other club members who were nominated for awards.

  9. Larne AC athletes in action

    Last weekend, Larne AC athletes were once again in action. The events of choice were the ECOS parkrun in Ballymena and the Sportsman Duathlon in Dundalk.

    First up, on Saturday 16th February 2013 two of the club’s ladies; Rhonda Brady and Heather Baxter joined over 100 participants at ECOS parkrun, a weekly 5km time trial held within the confines of the ECOS Park in Ballymena. Rhonda secured an excellent 8th place finish overall after running 21:31, this was enough to win the ladies category. Heather also performed well, especially when her recent marathon training and the associated high mileage is taken into consideration, she recorded 24:18 to finish in 27th place overall (3rd in ladies category).
